Production begins in the butterfly garden, where every morning at about 6:00 am collection is made from eggs deposited by the butterflies in different host plants. The second step is to transfer these eggs to glass containers properly disinfected and complete records with information regarding the date, species, number of eggs collected and collector's name. This information is both in the record book as attached to the glass container.
After a period different for each species (ten days for example) the larvae emerge from eggs, which are removed from the glass container and introduced into a new environment where they will feed into pupae. During this process can take months, the larvae will change shape in so-called stages. Finally, after the last stage, the larva stops feeding and begins to form its cocoon, this being the last stage before emerging as fully developed adult.
Pupae formed are deposited in the puparioya is for export or to the effect that the adult can emerge without major setbacks and away from predators. The emerged adults are brought back to the butterfly garden to start the process again.
